I am happy to say that this June will be a busy month for me. I am speaking four different times at three different conferences on the East Coast. I love speaking engagements, mostly for the question and answer sessions at the end. Best of all is speaking to people one-on-one after the session is over.
Attendees look to get very different lessons from their attendance.
Some people want to be inspired. They want a 50,000-foot view of the situation They want to think about the future of the topic.
Other people want nuts-and-bolts. How do I do this? What can you tell me to help me tomorrow? I want to justify my time away from my work and the expense of registration.
There will be a third group that says they want both. In my experience, this is unlikely in 30 to 90-minute session. Or if it is done, both are unsatisfactory.
Of course, the two choices might be topic dependent. But many topics could be presented in either way: inspired or nuts-and-bolts.
